HISTORY AND PURPOSE

Second District Police Business Association was formed as COMNET in November of 1992 by Captain Don Cognata. He had the vision of Neighborhood leaders, Business leaders and Church leaders working together to form communication avenues between the groups for the betterment of the entire district. The group evolved with changes in police command and a new 501C3 was formed to be known as the Second District Police Business Association.  The original Board Members were Captain Don Cognata, Carl Hanneke, Jim Seitz, Mitch Hanneken, John Campisi and Dr. Ray Geisman.

The first police awards luncheon was held in October of 1993.  The purpose of the luncheon is to honor the men and women officers of the Second District who have been chosen by their peers for outstanding performance as Officer of the Month and Year.  Nearly 500 Police Officers, Community leaders, City and State Officials and Business owners attend this special event each year.

The current Board Members are Joe Barbaglia, Frank Cunetto, Judi Schulz, Steve Doss, Jim Seitz, Joe Weiter, Dr. Ray Geisman, Rachel Wit, Ken Gabel, Abby Niebling, Captain Christi Marks, and Police Officer Don Veile.  The Board mission is:

  • Promoting a closer working relationship between the business community and the police
  • Recognize individual police officers for excellence in their profession
  • Demonstrate business support of the police and their important work in the community
  • Undertake programs and events which educate the membership about police work, its importance to the community, and how the members can effectively assist in this effort

Sincerely,
